Esophageal Cancer
Esophageal cancer develops in the esophagus (food pipe) that connects the throat to the stomach. The two main types are squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Early symptoms include difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), unintended weight loss, and chest pain.
Treatment Options
- Minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) using laparoscopic and thoracoscopic techniques
- Neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy before surgery
- Endoscopic mucosal resection for early-stage cancers
- Robotic-assisted surgery for enhanced precision
Risk Factors
Barrett's esophagus, chronic GERD, smoking, alcohol consumption, and obesity increase the risk of esophageal cancer.
