Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer develops in the colon or rectum and is one of the most preventable cancers through regular screening colonoscopy. Early detection allows removal of precancerous polyps before they become malignant.
Treatment Approaches
- Laparoscopic Colectomy: Minimally invasive removal of the affected colon segment
- Robotic Surgery: Enhanced precision for rectal cancers in narrow pelvic spaces
- Total Mesorectal Excision (TME): Complete removal of the mesorectum for rectal cancer
- Immunotherapy: Breakthrough treatment for MSI-H tumors with checkpoint inhibitors
- Liquid Biopsy: ctDNA monitoring for post-surgical cancer surveillance
Screening
Colonoscopy screening is recommended starting at age 45. When caught at the localized stage, the 5-year survival rate exceeds 90%.
